The Vegetable Man has been in operation in Bend, OR. since 1983. We are a family owned business and we live right here in Bend.
The Vegetable Man was originally started by Sam Parla, who owned and operated the business until 2012 when he sold it to his daughter and son-in-law, Ryan and Andrea Couch. Ryan had worked for Sam in the mid-90’s and then started Ryan's Produce in Redmond, OR. Andrea, his daughter, grew up in the business and some of her earliest childhood memories include working alongside her dad at the produce market on Greenwood Avenue in the 80’s. Ryan and Andrea have two children: Kaitlyn who attends college in Eugene and Carson who is finishing his Senior year of High School at Baker Web Academy.
In 2013 we expanded our business to La Pine bringing our fresh produce to South Deschutes County. In 2020 we sold the La Pine stand to our manager, Jody Taylor. While the businesses are now separately owned we are still supplying that stand with our fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Vegetable Man has been bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to Bend and Central Oregon for over 30 years. We believe in giving our customers the absolute best produce at competitive prices and with uncommon service. While our produce is farmer’s market quality you will find our prices to be comparable to grocery stores.
In addition to selling our produce at retail we also have a wholesale business that delivers our fruits and vegetables to other produce markets in Central Oregon.
We source fresh produce from Oregon, Washington, and California…we have relationships with small family farms that allow us to not only support our local farmers but bring you the best tasting produce at its optimal ripeness and freshness.
While customer service has in many places become a thing of the past we believe in giving our customers the very best experience possible. From helping you pick out your produce, to spending the time necessary to give you all the information you need we truly believe that the customer comes first. We’ll even help you carry your bags or box to your car! We are so thankful for our amazing customers who have supported us so faithfully all these years.
In 2012 we began selling Christmas Trees and we’ve taken the same approach to the tree business that we’ve always brought to the produce business – Giving our customers the freshest trees and great prices! We source our trees primarily from the Willamette Valley (Stayton area) and because we are now selling such a large quantity of Christmas trees we can guarantee that the tree you select is fresh cut and will last the entire season in your home.
